Big Universe® is an online community where kids, parents, teachers, publishers, authors, illustrators, librarians,
and others come together to explore the exciting world of online children's books.
We offer hundreds of fiction and non-fiction children's books
readable directly on our website, a self-publishing tool to create & publish children's books,
blogs on relevant topics, and an online virtual shopping mall for children's books.

Our name is derived from the fact that we live in a (very) big universe. If we could see the entire universe in a picture, Earth would not
even show up as a tiny dot (see the images below). More astounding, our whole galaxy, the Milky Way, would be impossible to locate with the
naked eye even though it is about 300,000 light-years around and about 1,000 light-years thick (one light-year equals 9,500,000,000,000 kilometers).
While this is a mind-boggling concept in itself, more stupefying is the simple fact that our universe consists of millions of galaxies that are millions
of light-years apart from each other!
Considering the massive sizes of and extreme distances between the objects in outer space, all the infighting in which we engage on this
small planet we call Earth seems like such a colossal waste of time and resources. Thus, at Big Universe, our desire is to use children's books
online as a way to connect the next generation - our children - and help them look past the differences between our various cultures and instead focus
on our similarities, so we can come together to explore our big universe.

Our mascots are named Little Alien & Joey. Little Alien comes from a place very far from our galaxy. He lands on Earth and
meets Joey, a cute and friendly dog. Little Alien is interested in learning everything about the human race and this planet -- with the help of
Joey, he does just that. In return, Little Alien takes Joey on trips deep into outer space and teaches him many things
about the big universe we are all part of.
